Parenting Week 2025
Parenting today looks different—and it’s not always easy to keep up. Between tech overload, cost of living stress, mental health challenges, and the constant juggle, it’s a lot. That’s why this year’s Selwyn Parenting Week is all about Parenting Now: Real Talk, Real Support.
This week-long event is designed for real parents living real lives; right here, right now, in Selwyn. No judgment, no filters—just a chance to connect, learn, laugh, and be reminded that you’re not doing this alone.
What’s on:
• Honest kōrero and sessions with parents, rangatahi, and expert speakers
• Practical, down-to-earth connections on the stuff that matters now—like digital wellbeing, resilience, and navigating everyday challenges
• Community connections, local services, giveaways, and a mix of in-person, online, and hybrid events for Selwyn parents
Confirmed Headline Speakers:
Nigel Latta – One of New Zealand’s most well-known psychologists, authors, and broadcasters. Nigel brings decades of experience, humour, and practical tools for surviving modern parenting—with zero fluff and plenty of real talk. He’ll be kicking off Parenting Week with an evening that’s honest, insightful, and packed with relatable takeaways.
Professor Julia Rucklidge – A leading clinical psychologist and world-renowned researcher from the University of Canterbury, Julia will be speaking about the powerful link between nutrition and mental health. Her talk will explore how micronutrients can support wellbeing in children and young people—based on groundbreaking science that’s changing lives.
And there’s so so much more to come—we’re still adding amazing speakers, sessions, and community events throughout the week!
Whether you’re flying, flailing, or somewhere in between—you’re welcome to be part of Selwyn Parenting Week. Let’s talk about what’s real, share what helps, and keep showing up for each other.
Selwyn Parenting Week is proudly hosted by the Selwyn Parenting Network - Registered Charity (CC48588), with the support of incredible community organisations, businesses, schools, and local champions.
Details of all upcoming events will be shared here and across our digital media—so make sure you’re following along!
