Selwyn Parenting Week 2026

Selwyn Parenting Week: Parenting today looks different and it’s not always easy to keep up. Between tech overload, cost of living stress, mental health challenges, and the constant juggle, it’s a lot. That’s why Selwyn Parenting Week is all about 'Parenting Now' with real talk, real support, and navigation to resources across Canterbury.

This week-long event is designed for real parents living real lives; right here, right now, in Selwyn.
No judgment, no filters.... just a chance to connect, learn, laugh, and be reminded that you’re not doing this alone.

What To Expect:
• Honest kōrero and sessions with parents, rangatahi, and expert speakers
• Practical, down-to-earth connections on the stuff that matters now—like digital wellbeing, resilience, and navigating everyday challenges
• Community connections, local services, giveaways, and a mix of in-person, online, and hybrid events for Selwyn parents

A note about Selwyn Parenting Week 2026: Last year, we had the absolute privilege of opening Selwyn Parenting Week with Nigel Latta. How lucky we were to have him here in Selwyn, sharing his wisdom, humour, and that very real reminder that parenting does not need to be as complicated as we make it. Since then, Nigel has passed, but his legacy continues to live on in homes, conversations, and communities right across the country. One of the biggest messages he left us with on the night was this: we overthink more than we need to.

Parenting is not about being perfect. It is about love, warmth, calm, clear boundaries, showing up, and taking an interest in our kids every day. It is about getting the basics right. As we shape Selwyn Parenting Week for May 2026, we are holding that message so very close. We are currently finalising speakers and details, and we will be sharing everything very soon.

This year will be a little more local and low key than last year, and that is intentional. We know families are doing it tough right now. The cost of living is real. Fuel costs matter. Time matters. So we are being really mindful about what we create, where we hold it, and how accessible it is for parents.

What matters most is that Parenting Week continues…

  • That the conversations continue

  • That parents feel supported.

  • That we keep showing up for our community in ways that actually help.

Nigel’s legacy was never about doing more. It was about feeling more confident in what already matters most.

Parenting Week might look a little different this year, but we’re taking the time to get it right, and the heart behind it has not changed one bit.
